The future of window coverings is motorized technology or “smart shades”. The ease of operation, personal control, and child safety features make power motorized shades a hot trend. Through these frequently asked questions below, you’ll be able to understand how these smart shades work and why they are perfect for most homes. Particularly, we’ll focus on our most popular installed motorized shade technology, Hunter Douglas PowerView.
Q: How can I operate the Hunter Douglas PowerView blinds or shades?
A: Remote control or wall switch are popular control options for the PowerView system. They can also be controlled via smartphone or tablet using the PowerView app. Along with the programmed app, Amazon Alexa, Google assistant, and Nest are compatible systems.
Q: Will I need wires installed in my home for this product?
A: You do not need wires installed. The motorized shades can be powered by batteries or plug in power supply. We typically install a battery pack which is hidden behind the headrail when installed. Batteries are recommended to be replaced every year, depending on configuration, usage and size.
Q: What style window coverings are available with PowerView motorization?
A: Almost all Hunter Douglas products are available with PowerView Motorization including: Honeycombs (including top down/ bottom up operations), Silhouettes & Nantucket window shadings, Roller Shades, Roman Shades, Woven Woods, Shutters (slat tilt operation), Wood and Metal Blinds (slat tilt operation), Somner Vertical Blinds and more
Q: I travel a lot. Can I schedule my shades to operate while I am out of town to look as if someone is home?
A: Absolutely! A unique benefit of the Hunter Douglas PowerView system is that you can schedule scenes that automatically change as the day goes on. They can open or close everyday based on certain times or based on sunrise/ sunset. Through the PowerView App you can adjust your shade from anywhere in the world. The pebble remote can also adjust to preset scenes by just the click of a button.
Q: Is internet connection required?
A: If you plan on operating your shades only with a pebble remote or wall switch control, internet is not required. If you plan on integrating the app or other smart home devices to operate the shades, you will need a Hub installed which requires internet connection upon installation and setup.
